For immediate release:

"The Trouble with School Leavers!!"

In the face of the recent record A level results and the CBI's condemnation of our education system and how it is failing the UK economy, there are huge questions to be asked about how schools can best serve their pupils and the economy.

Teachers tell us that they are under such pressure to get academic results that they have no time to consider what would make a real life difference to their pupils.

A recent KPMG/CIPD survey found that employers want more focus on communication skills, interpersonal skills, taking responsibility and work ethic.

The key attributes employers said that they look for in school leaver recruits are:

~ Communication skills (40% of employers rank this in their top three required attributes)
~ Work ethic (39%)
~ Personality (32%)

When asked what the education system might do to improve the employability of school leavers a half of employers ranked interpersonal skills in their top three suggestions.

In second place, was helping students to take greater responsibility (40%), third place improved communication skills (38%) and fourth place was better discipline (32%)

These soft skills came out on top of literacy (28%), numeracy (22%) and IT skills (19%).

41% of employers anticipate recruitment difficulties this year.

Coaching for Schools is a new organisation that offers programmes and coaching to schools in the above areas and through corporate and business sponsorship supplies the programmes to schools. If this seems like a good topic of interest then we would (of course :o) be more than happy to have our Director of Coaching speak to you about how we believe schools can better support their pupils and therefore the UK economy.
